Michele Collier will be teaching a One Day Intensive Figurative Sculpting PaperClay Workshop, Sunday June 22nd at Ball Clay Studio. The focus will be to create a full figure wall piece, using the collected wisdom of her 10 years of working with paperclay slabs. This is a great approach for a one-day intensive because it will cover all the elements of a complete figure, including: faces, hands, arms/legs and “emotive” torsos, using controlled techniques such as tearing, compressing and stretching as a means of creating figurative sculptures with Paperclay. At the end of the workshop students will be able to take their unfired sculptures home or have it fired at the studio for an extra fee.
Paper clay feels and fires just like any other cone 10 clay. The difference is in how the wicking properties change the rules of engagement. This “wicking” is caused by the introduction of a small amount of paper into the clay formula. This allows you to add wet clay to a fully dry piece and you never have to score the surface to get good adhesion. Read more about paperclay here.
